The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has discontinued the facility of registration without late fee for CA May Foundation, Intermediate and Final examinations. The examinations are proposed in May-June, but there is a possibility of their postponement.

Why can the CA exam be postponed?

General elections are to be held for the 18th Lok Sabha this year and its notification is awaited. If the dates of the general elections clash with the existing examination schedule, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) may decide to postpone the CA Foundation, Final and Intermediate examinations for the May 2024 session.

Keeping in view the upcoming elections, the institute has said in a notice, "If the dates of general elections coincide with the current examination schedule, the examination committee may reschedule the CA examination to May 2024."

The committee has also decided that there should be a cooling-off period after three consecutive attempts for the duties of observers.

ICAI has notified the eligibility criteria to serve on the panel as observers. Some of the criteria set by the committee include the candidate not being more than 65 years of age, not being a coaching student and not having any criminal record.

ICAI said it paid an honorarium of Rs 3,000 per day or per session to cover local travel costs, Rs 350 as transport reimbursement for 'A' category cities and Rs 250 per day for other cities.

Interested candidates who wish to register to become observers can do so on the observers.icaiexam.icai.org portal till March 5.

As per the CA May Exam 2024

Schedule, candidates who failed to submit their applications for the CA Exam 2024 before the last date can still register by paying a late fee of Rs 600 or US$10. All registered candidates will be allowed to make changes in the submitted form from March 3 to March 9.
