A 31-year-old tribal woman tragically died during delivery at a hospital in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official confirmed on Friday. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, has raised concerns about the challenges pregnant mothers in remote tribal areas face. Everyone is apprehensive about what will happen during their delivery. Even before this incident, women have died in delivery.
According to a
PTI report, the woman, identified as Kunta Vaibhav Padwale of Galtare village in Vikramgad taluka, was initially admitted to a local hospital after she developed labour pain. Noticing the complications, she was later referred to the state-run Patangshah Cottage Hospital in Jauhar, which serves as a major medical centre for the region.
Despite medical efforts to ensure
a safe delivery, Kunta Padwale tragically died during delivery. Bharat Mahale, Medical Superintendent of Jauhar Hospital, said the woman initially appeared to be in good health but suffered fatal cardiac arrest during delivery. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts by the medical team, they were unable to save both the mother and the baby. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Earlier, a 22-year-old woman from Koladayacha Pada in Mokhada taluka of Palghar had died after not getting timely treatment after delivery. The family alleged that the woman died due to lack of timely treatment and such incidents had happened in the past. On November 26, 26-year-old Pinky Dongarkar of Sarni village in Dahanu taluka had failed to get an ambulance on time, leading to the death of her child and her.
Palghar MP Hemant Savra expressed grief over the death. He had said that a 200-bed hospital has been approved for Jawahar. The work is expected to start soon. The Trauma Centre building and the Palghar Civil Hospital building are almost ready, he said. Soon they will be open to the public. We also have plans to increase the number of ambulances.
