To promote healthy eating habits, ICMR (National Institute of Nutrition) has issued some guidelines. It also includes important things for people who consume tea and coffee, which is very important for a healthy body. Excessive consumption of caffeine is related to many health risks.

According to ICMR researchers, tea and coffee contain caffeine. It is a compound that stimulates the central nervous system and can cause physical dependence. However, the guidelines also say that drinking tea without milk has some health benefits, including improved blood circulation and a reduced risk of conditions such as coronary artery disease and stomach cancer. But these benefits are available only when you consume it in the right quantity, at the right time, and in the right way.

When should you drink tea and coffee?

Medical body ICMR recommends drinking tea and coffee 1 hour before and 1 hour after meals. The reason for this is the presence of tannin in these beverages, which can prevent the absorption of iron in the body. This potentially leads to conditions such as iron deficiency and anemia. Apart from this, excessive coffee consumption can increase blood pressure and cause heart-related problems.

How much tea and coffee should I consume?

ICMR recommends a daily caffeine intake limit of 300 mg. Let us tell you that a 150 ml cup of brewed coffee contains 80 to 120 mg of caffeine, whereas instant coffee contains 50 to 65 mg. Tea contains about 30 to 65 milligrams of caffeine per serving.

It is important to keep these things in mind while eating

Apart from controlling the intake of tea and coffee, ICMR advocates limiting the intake of oil, sugar, and salt. It is also advised to include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, and seafood in the diet.
