Fake drugs worth Rs 1.85 crore busted, 2 accused booked

Spurious drugs worth Rs 1.85 crore seized:The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials have seized fake drugs worth Rs 1.85 crore in raids at two places in Thane district of Maharashtra.
Officials accused
of selling fake drugs gave this information on Monday. In the last few months, raids have been conducted at a warehouse in Bhiwandi and another establishment at Mira Road, he said. A case has been registered against two accused in this connection, an official said. An FDA official said in the complaint that investigation revealed that the accused were manufacturing and selling spurious drugs, falsely claiming that these drugs belonged to the original manufacturer (pharmaceutical companies).
According to the complaint, these drugs were sent to many states, due to which patients were cheated and public health was compromised. The police on Saturday registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Indian Judicial Code and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Officials said police and FDA were trying to find out where the spurious drugs were being made, from where packaging material was being procured and who were involved in disposing of these drugs in the market.
