Exclusive: ICMR director said – no booster dose yet, focus on vaccination of all adults

ICMR Director Dr. Balram (Bhargava) said that there is no discussion of the booster shot of the vaccine in the discussions about public health. Everyone wants to get the full dose of the vaccine, and the whole dose is 2 doses.

New Delhi. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Dr. Balram Bhargava in an exclusive conversation with News18 said about the Vaccine Booster Shot that only one thing should be done at a time. First, we have to take the vaccination (Covid-19 Vaccination) to our entire adult population. At present, there is no discussion of a vaccine booster shot in the discussions about public health. He said that everyone wants to get the full dose of the vaccine, and the full dose of the vaccine is 2 doses.

Dr. Bhargava expressed happiness on the occasion of giving 75 crore vaccine doses in the country and said that this is a great achievement and should be celebrated. He said that 75 crore vaccine doses have been given in the country, in which 60 percent of the people are those who have got one dose. 20 percent of people have taken both doses – and this gap will soon be filled. He said that everything depends on the availability of the vaccine and other people should not have any hesitation about vaccination.

'Make children aware about Corona'

Regarding the vaccination of children, he said that the staff should be fully vaccinated. SOPs should be followed and children should be told and made aware of coronavirus infection every day. This is a better way to open a school. Regarding Zydus Cadila's vaccine for children, Dr. Bhargava said that a good example of Britain is in front of us. He kept the age group for vaccination from 18 to 17 years for the first few weeks and then 17 to 16 after a few weeks. This is a good example and we can learn from it. can adopt.

He said that at present we are trying to vaccinate the entire adult population of 94 crores. We have given the first dose of the vaccine to 75 crore people. Once the vaccination continues at this pace for a few more months, then we can achieve the target. Then after that, we can decide on the age group.
