Employee Provident Fund (EPF) has announced new rules regarding death claims. The department has issued a circular giving details of the settlement of the physical claim. Actually, according to EPFO, in case of the death of EPF members, field officers are facing difficulties in linking and authenticating Aadhaar. In such a situation, there is a delay in payment to EPF members.

Since Aadhaar details cannot be corrected after the death of the member, EPFO has decided to allow physical claims without linking Aadhaar. However, this can be done only in e-file with the permission of the field officers but will be applicable only in cases where the member's details are correct in the UAN but incorrect in the Aadhaar database.

There used to be problems in these matters

Field officers of EPF had to face difficulties in many things. These were problems like wrong details in Aadhaar, technical problems in Aadhaar from the UIDAI database, and inactive Aadhaar.

Given such cases, now physical claims have been made temporarily in all death cases without linking Aadhaar, but details will have to be given only in the e-office file with the permission of OIC. OIC will investigate the membership and claimants of the deceased to prevent fraud.

Will be allowed to submit an Aadhaar

If a member dies without an Aadhaar, the data of that person will be maintained in the Aadhaar system, and permission will be given to sign the JD form. It is also possible that the deceased person may never have registered his name. In such a situation, any one of the members of that family can be allowed to submit his Aadhaar to the JD.
