Cold Waves: This year winter is getting a bit more in the winter season. Especially the cold winds shake you from the inside, which also affects your health. In the last few years, India has been witnessing the devastating effects of cold waves. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the number of deaths due to cold waves in 2020 was 152, which was 76 times more than that of heatwaves.
On Tuesday, the IMD has predicted cold wave and cold day conditions in some parts of northwest India for the next two to three days. Given the increasing cold waves, some suggestions are being given which will come in handy to avoid the cold wave.
Do not drink alcohol
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has asked people not to drink alcohol during the cold wave. According to him, alcohol lowers the body temperature, which is not true in cold weather. Alcohol relaxes and dilates the blood vessels, which in turn helps the body heat to escape and subsequently lowers the body temperature.
Wear a hat or cover your head
Cover your head with a cap or shawl to avoid loss of body heat during cold winds. In general, any part of the body that is left exposed helps to release the body's temperature leading to chills. Therefore, to maintain the warmth of the body, the body should be covered as much as possible.
Wear mittens instead of gloves
NDMA suggests wearing mittens instead of gloves. The NDMA guidelines state that mittens are better than gloves because your fingers can share the heat of the body. Mittens are considered to be warmer than gloves because the fingers are not separated in this, which keeps the heat of the whole body. Mittens keep hands warmer than gloves.
Drink hot drinks
Drinking hot drinks daily will maintain the body temperature. You can consume ginger tea from decoction. But keep an eye on sugar consumption along with it. The more hot drinks you take, the more sugar will go with it, so using jaggery or honey instead of sugar will prove to be better.
