Frequent urination in winters is quite normal but if you are urinating more often than usual then you must get your sugar level checked because this can also be a symptom of diabetes. Let's know about this from Dr. L.H. Ghotekar.

We all know that 70 percent of our body is made up of water. We need water to run our body smoothly, we fulfill this requirement in the form of water and liquid diet, but the excess water and waste of our body comes out in the form of urine. Although the more water we drink, the more we urinate, but extreme cold and pregnancy are the reasons due to which we urinate more. But excessive urination can also be a sign of diabetes.

Diabetes patients also have to urinate excessively. More than 1 million people in our country suffer from this disease. And the number of people who are on the border of diabetes is even higher, that is, they do not have diabetes but are at risk of it, which is called pre-diabetes in medical language. If we talk about pre-diabetes, then its biggest symptom is excessive urination.

What is the reason for excessive urination

Excessive or frequent urination is a big sign of increased blood sugar level in the body. Therefore, it should not be ignored even by mistake. If you feel that you are urinating more than normal, then you must get your sugar checked once.

Why are diabetes cases increasing rapidly?

According to Dr. L.H. Ghotekar, H.O.D. of the Department of Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College and S.S.K. Hospital, our bad lifestyle and wrong eating habits are taking us closer to diabetes. On the other hand, people who have obesity and someone in the family has had diabetes are at a higher risk of diabetes!

Dr Ghotekar explains that there are two types of diabetes. Type-1 and Type-2, but there are other types of diabetes as well such as gestational diabetes, type-1 diabetes (LADA), drug-induced, MODY, etc. Apart from diabetes, frequent urination can also be a symptom of overactive bladder. It can also be a symptom of urinary tract infection, which is generally more common in women. Therefore, if you urinate more frequently than usual, get yourself thoroughly examined, do not ignore it.
