Brain health concerns are growing.

Brain health problems are increasing rapidly in India. Diseases like stroke, epilepsy, memory loss, depression, and anxiety are becoming more common. According to a study published in Lancet Global Health, India has seen a 43% increase in these conditions from 1990 to 2019.

Pay attention to the warning signs.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as loss of memory, confusion, mood swings, or difficulty thinking and concentrating, contact a doctor immediately. Experts say that these can be signs of brain health problems that require medical treatment.

How to maintain brain health

The good news is that we can improve our brain health by making lifestyle changes. Here are some important tips-

Exercise-   Physical activity improves blood circulation and cognitive function. Activities like walking, running, yoga, and sports are especially beneficial for the brain.

Eat nutritious foods- A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins provides the brain with essential nutrients. Fish and flax seeds rich in omega-3 fatty acids are especially beneficial.

Stay mentally active-   Solving puzzles, reading books, learning new skills, and engaging in other activities that challenge the brain enhance cognitive abilities and may delay the onset of dementia.

Get enough sleep-   Adequate sleep is needed to strengthen memory and remove toxins. Aim for 7-8 hours of good sleep every night.

Reduce stress- Stress is harmful to brain health. Yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises can help reduce stress and improve overall mental health.

Stay socially connected – Strong social relationships are important for brain health. Spend time with family and friends, participate in social activities, and join clubs or groups.
