Shardiya Navratri 2022: Why is Shardiya Navratri celebrated?

According to beliefs, Goddess Durga, the presiding deity of Shakti, destroyed demonic powers by killing Mahishasura and protected the master of good deeds.

The time when Maa Durga attacked Mahishasura and fought with him for nine days and killed him on the tenth day, that time was in the month of Ashwin.

Therefore, these nine days of the month of Ashwin have been dedicated to the worship of Shakti.

According to the Panchang, autumn also begins in the month of Ashwin, hence it is called Shardiya Navratri.

The 10th day of Shardiya Navratri is celebrated as Vijayadashami. This year Shardiya Navratri is starting on the 26th of September.
