Sawan Special: Make ShahiMakhana Kheer in fasting, prepare like this in just 30 minutes


Lord Shiva is worshipped in Sawan and to please him, people keep austerity, recitation, worship, fast etc. Such dishes are prepared, which are liked by Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva's favorite bhog is Kheer, so he enjoys Kheer in Sawan. Along with this, people also make kheer in their homes. Since most of the women and the people of their homes will be fasting, then what can be a better prasad than Kheer. Even if you have not kept a fast, then kheer can be made with food. 

Now, although plain rice kheer is made in homes, one can get bored by eating rice kheer again and again. Makhana is considered very good in fasting, as it gives enough energy to your body which keeps you fit during the fast.

Yes, we have told you this before too, but this time give it a little twist and make it with lots of dry fruits. You and everyone in your household will love this recipe of ShahiMakhana Kheer. The amazing thing is that it will not take you more than 30-35 minutes to make it. So let's know how ShahiMakhana Kheer will be made. 

How to make-

  • First of all, to make Kheer, collect Makhana, dry fruits, milkmaid, ghee, full cream milk, cardamom powder, crushed almonds and 2-3 threads of saffron. First, you have to fry Makhana and dry fruits in ghee. This will add a flavour to the makhana and dry fruits. 
  • Heat a pan and add 1 tsp of ghee to it. Once the ghee is hot, add 1 cup of makhana to it and fry it well. Do not brown the makhana too much. When it turns a light golden colour, take it back to the cup and keep it. 
  • Now in the same pan again add 1 tsp ghee and add 1 tbsp cashew nuts, 1 tbsp pistachios, 1 tbsp raisins and 1 tbsp almonds and fry them too. Keep dry fruits aside as well. 
  • After this, put 1-litre full cream milk in a thick-bottomed pan and cook it till it comes to a boil. When the milk comes to a boil, keep the milk on low flame and cook till it reduces to half. When the milk becomes half, add the roasted makhana to it and cook it for some time.
  • Now add dry fruits and milkmaid to it and cook for 3-5 minutes. If you like sweets more, then you can increase the quantity of milkmaid and sugar as per your choice. After some time add almond powder or well-crushed almonds, 1/4 tsp cardamom powder and saffron threads and cook on low flame for 5-7 minutes. Adding saffron is optional, even if you do not have saffron, kheer can be made.  
  • The consistency of your kheer should be slightly thick. Yes, if you do not want to make the kheer thick, then you can turn off the gas after cooking the kheer quickly. Your fasting royal makhana kheer is ready, offer it to Lord Shiva and feed it to everyone.

  • 1 cup Makhana
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp cashew nuts
  • 1 tbsp pistachios
  • 1 tbsp raisins and 1 tbsp almonds
  • 1/2 cup milk made
  • 1-litre full cream milk
  • 2 tsp crushed almonds/almond powder
  • 2-3 threads saffron (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Steps to make-

Step 1

First of all, heat ghee in a pan and fry the Makana in it.

Step 2

Heat ghee again in the same pan and fry dry fruits and keep them aside.

Step 3

Now boil milk in a thick-bottomed pan. Cook the milk on low flame till it reduces to half.

Step 4

After this, add makhana to it and cook for some time and then add dry fruits and let it cook with a lid.

Step 5

Add milkmaid, saffron, almond powder and cardamom powder, mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.

Step 6

Your ShahiMakhana Kheer is ready. Serve hot and enjoy yourself.
