The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated every year on 14 January. This festival is celebrated in different parts of the country. Donations and baths have special significance on this day. Today a South Asian dish made of rice and lentils is also popularly prepared and eaten. Eating Khichdi on this day is considered very auspicious. Khichdi fairs are also held at many places. One cup- Small Rice

One cup of Moong Dal


1/4 tsp Asafoetida

1 tsp Cumin

2 inch - Ginger

6- Garlic cloves

2 - Onion 

1- Tomato

1 to 2 Green chilies

2 to 3 - Curry leaves

2 - Potato

1/ 3 green peas

1 tsp - garam masala

1 tsp - red chili powder

1 tsp - turmeric powder

6 cups - of water

Khichdi Recipe

Step 1

To make khichdi, first mix rice, and dal together. After this wash both things thoroughly.

Step 2

After this heat the oil in the cooker.


Step 3

Now add a teaspoon of cumin seeds to it. Then add ginger and garlic to the oil. Cook them for a few minutes.

Step 4

After this add onion and curry leaves. Let it cook on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes. Fry the onions till light brown.

- Now put chopped tomatoes in this mixture. Break the green chilies and add them. Mix everything well. Now put 2 chopped potatoes in this mixture. Cook for a few minutes.

Step - 6

Now put green peas in it. Add turmeric, red chili powder, and garam masala to it. Mix all these things well.

Step - 7

- Now put rice and dal in this mixture. Fry the spices together for a minute. Because of this, Sondha's exam gets interrupted.


- Now add water and salt to this mixture and cook till 4 whistles.

Step - 9
