Ingredients for Matar Upma
Semolina - 1 bowl
Peas - 1 bowl
Onion - 2
Rai - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – 7-8
Lemon juice - 2 tsp
Green coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
salt - as per taste
How to make Matar Upma
- To make Matar Upma, first cut long pieces of onions and keep them. After this, put semolina in a pan and heat it on a low flame till its colour becomes light brown. When the semolina is cooked, take it out on a plate and keep it aside. Now put oil in the pan and put it on medium flame. When the oil becomes hot, put mustard seeds in it. After the mustard seeds crackle, add curry leaves and fry them.
- After a few seconds, add long chopped onions to the spices and fry them while stirring for 1-2 minutes. When the onions become soft and their colour turns golden brown, add peeled peas to them. After roasting for 3-4 more minutes, add water to this mixture as needed and let it boil. After some time add red chilli powder and salt as per taste and stir it with a ladle.
- When the water of this mixture starts boiling well, put the pre-baked semolina in it and add lemon juice and let the peas upma cook on medium flame. While cooking, keep stirring the upma from time to time with the help of a ladle. Within a short time, the water of the upma will start drying up. When the upma becomes thick, turn off the gas. Your delicious matar upma is ready. Garnish it with green coriander leaves and serve.
