Basant Panchami, also known as Saraswati Puja, is a Hindu festival celebrated to worship Goddess Saraswati. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the month of Magha, which marks the beginning of spring. Basant Panchami also announces the arrival of Holi, which occurs forty days later. Vasant Utsav is celebrated forty days before spring in Panchami. This is because any season goes through a transitional period of 40 days before spring arrives.

Goddess Saraswati gives us wisdom. It is also the time of the year when mustard flowers bloom during Basant Panchami in India. A field of mustard flowers resembles a bed of yellow flowers during the festival, and the yellow color is associated with the festival. During this time people wear yellow-colored clothes and eat yellow-colored food (like khichdi).

The festival of Vasant Panchami, also known as Basant Panchami, marks the beginning of preparations for spring, which is celebrated in different ways depending on the region of the Indian subcontinent. In India, the festival is celebrated mostly in the northern states of Punjab and Bihar, where people celebrate it as the festival of kites. People in Rajasthan wear garlands of jasmine on the day of the festival.
