Sonkar, a black child from the Khatik community

The real name of Kala Bachcha Sonkar was Munna Sonkar. He came from the Bilhaur area of ​​the Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and led the Khatik community. The Khatik community is an important section of the Dalit community and Kala Bachcha Sonkar was one of the most influential leaders of this community. However his popularity was not limited to his community only, but he had a deep hold in the entire Hindu society.

He was associated with the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and was always at the forefront to protect the Hindu community. In the early days, he worked as a pig farmer, but soon he became active in local politics and started fighting for the protection of the Hindu community.

Played an important role in the Ram Mandir movement

Kala Bachcha Sonkar was already an influential leader of the Hindu society in Kanpur, but during the Ram Mandir movement, he gained recognition as a Hindu warrior.

After the Babri demolition in Ayodhya on 6 December 1992, communal riots broke out across the country. Kanpur was also not untouched by this. Rioters started targeting Hindus in Babupurwa, Juhi and other Muslim-dominated areas. To protect the Hindu society, Kala Bachcha Sonkar openly resisted the Muslim extremists.

He worked to save the Hindu community without caring for his life and his bravery became an example for every Hindu in Kanpur. During this time, many cases were filed against him, but his popularity kept increasing.

Entry into politics and association with the BJP

Due to his stronghold in Hindu society and popularity among the Dalit community, the BJP made him its candidate for the Bilhaur assembly seat in 1993. Although he lost this election to the Samajwadi Party candidate, his identity and influence in politics continued to grow.

Despite the defeat, he emerged as the pro-Hindutva face of the BJP in the Kanpur region. He developed an image of a staunch Hindu leader who would go to any extent to protect the Hindu community.

The brutal murder of Kala Bachcha Sonkar in 1994

Just a few months after losing the election to the BJP, Kala Bachcha Sonkar was murdered on 9 February 1994.

On the day of the murder, he was going somewhere on his scooter when he was attacked with a powerful bomb. The bomb was so powerful that no part of his body was left intact. About 40 iron nails came out of his bones.

Pakistan's notorious intelligence agency ISI was behind this murder. The investigation also revealed that Rs 10 lakh was sent from Mumbai for his murder, out of which Rs 4 lakh was spent on this attack.

The excesses of Mulayam Singh's government

After the murder of Kala Bachcha Sonkar, the government of then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav crossed all limits of cruelty against his family.

The government did not hand over his body to his family.

When BJP leader Brahmadutt Dwivedi and others went to collect the body, permission was initially granted but later the government refused to hand over the body.

At 4 in the morning, the police secretly cremated his body.

When Kala Bachcha Sonkar's family protested, his widowed and elderly mother was brutally beaten by the police.

The protesting BJP workers were arrested and they were also beaten badly.

The family was not even allowed to leave the house and was kept under surveillance.

Rahul Bachcha Sonkar: Carrying forward his father's legacy

Kala Bachcha Sonkar's sacrifice cannot be forgotten. His son Rahul Bachcha Sonkar decided to carry forward his father's legacy.

BJP made him a candidate for Bilhaur assembly seat in 2022.

During the election campaign, he reminded about the sacrifices of his father and the work done by him for the Hindu society.

Rahul Bachcha Sonkar won by more than 1 lakh votes and became MLA.

He was a warrior of Hindu society, who fearlessly protected Hindus during riots.

His assassination was the result of an ISI conspiracy, carried out by local Islamic radicals.

The then Mulayam government not only harassed his family but also snatched away the right even to perform his last rites.

Today his son Rahul Bachcha Sonkar is an MLA from the same seat and is keeping the saga of his father's sacrifice alive.
