The countdown for the start of IPL 2024 has started and just a few days are left. The inaugural match of this season will be played between CSK and RCB. Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, emerged as champions last season, while Royal Challengers Bangalore is yet to win the title. The first match of the season promises to be exciting. A total of 10 teams compete in the IPL and their victory or defeat does not have any significant impact on their earnings. According to reports, these teams earn Rs 400 to Rs 500 crore.

IPL provides good income to the players. In this edition, all eyes were on the most expensive player Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore. Starc is the most expensive player in the history of IPL. KKR allocated a portion of its earnings to Starc and other players.

The earning of each IPL team ranges from Rs 400 to Rs 500 crore. This amount is quite big. According to Santosh N, managing partner of D&P Advisory, the central pool of IPL is around Rs 9,000 to 10,000 crore. Fifty percent of this pool is distributed among the teams, resulting in each team getting around Rs 450 to 500 crore.

The IPL generates revenue through various means, primarily from media broadcast rights, which contribute significantly to its earnings. The league has also been attractive in terms of sponsorship, with sponsors' logos emblazoned on team jerseys and advertisements displayed in stadiums during matches.

When it comes to player expenses, they are relatively high compared to the team's earnings. Each team sets aside Rs 100 crore for the auction, which also includes buying players. Additionally, there are expenses for team hotel, food, and facilities. However, these expenses often exceed the income generated.
