Mumbai Indians managed to win against the Punjab Kings. Captain Hardik Pandya was very happy with this victory. However, he could not save himself from a penalty. Hardik Pandya has been fined for a major mistake during the match against Punjab Kings. While this mistake was the collective responsibility of the entire Mumbai Indians team, Hardik as captain had to face the consequences. He was fined ₹12 lakh for slow over rate during the match against Punjab Kings.

After facing defeat against Chennai Super Kings at their home ground in their previous match, Mumbai Indians bounced back by defeating Punjab Kings at their new home, Mullanpur on 18 April. Although the victory margin was just 9 runs, it gave Mumbai Indians two important points, taking them slightly higher in the points table.

Hardik Pandya's ₹12 lakh loss and his fifth captaincy

While the result of the match was in favour of Mumbai Indians, their captain Hardik Pandya also had to bear the brunt of it. Hardik had to suffer a loss of Rs 12 lakh due to a slow over rate during the match. He is now the fifth captain to face this fine in the 17th season of IPL. Before him, this fine has been imposed on Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

If this mistake continues further, Hardik Pandya's problems will increase.

For Mumbai Indians, victory is paramount considering the current stage of IPL 2024, which they have achieved. Perhaps Hardik Pandya will not be too worried about the fine of Rs 12 lakh. Because the two points earned are more important for him and his team. However, if they continue to make the same mistakes, Pandya and his team may face more challenges. If Hardik Pandya commits the mistake of slow over rate again, the penalty can be doubled. Apart from this, if this happens two more times then they may have to face a fine as well as a ban.
