There was no representative of the Pakistan Cricket Board present during the presentation ceremony in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025, after which a big controversy arose. The ICC was accused of doing this intentionally. However, now the ICC has given a befitting reply to Pakistan.
The title of Champions Trophy 2025 went to the Indian team. In the final match played in Dubai, Team India defeated New Zealand and won the trophy. But a big controversy was seen regarding the presentation ceremony that took place after this victory. Actually, no official of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which was the host of this tournament, was present on the stage in the presentation ceremony. Many former Pakistani cricketers raised questions on this issue. The ICC was accused that the COO of PCB and the Director of Champions Trophy were present in Dubai but the ICC did not call them on the stage. Now the ICC has given its clarification on this issue.
ICC's befitting reply to Pakistan's allegations
The controversy arose after ICC chairman Jay Shah was present at the presentation ceremony after the final in Dubai along with BCCI president Roger Binny, BCCI secretary and New Zealand Cricket Board's Roger Tousey. Then the news came out that PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi was unwell due to which he did not go to Dubai. But the ICC ignored PCB COO and tournament director Syed Sumer Ahmed, who was in Dubai.
According to Pakistani media reports, the ICC has now issued a statement on this controversy. The ICC has issued a statement clarifying that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was invited to attend the presentation ceremony, but he decided not to attend. Apart from this, the ICC said that it invites only the head, vice-president or CEO of the host board to the presentation ceremony, and the rest of the officials, even if present, are usually not part of the presentation ceremony. The statement emphasized that the ICC follows the same guidelines for all its tournaments, regardless of the location they are held.
