Advertising ban on IPL
The DG wrote, 'IPL should strictly enforce the rules prohibiting all forms of tobacco and alcohol advertising, including surrogate advertisements, in the stadium premises where the games and related IPL games/events are held and during broadcast sessions on national television. The sale of tobacco/alcohol products should also be prohibited in all associated events and sports facilities. Tobacco and alcohol consumption are major risk factors for NCDs. We rank second in tobacco-related deaths worldwide. About 1.4 million deaths occur every year. Alcohol is the most common beverage used by Indians. Cricket players are role models for the youth to promote a healthy, active lifestyle, IPL is the country's biggest sports platform, which has a social and moral obligation to promote public health and support the government's health initiatives.'
