Bangladesh, which had been raising tensions with India over the Sheikh Hasina issue, has changed its tone. Interim government foreign minister Tauheed Hussain has said that no issue will become an obstacle in Dhaka-Delhi relations.
The interim government says that its priority in the new year i.e. 2025 is to maintain good relations with the three powers – India, China and America and to resolve the Rohingya issue.
Change in tone of interim government of Bangladesh!
Talking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry, he said, "Resolving the Rohingya crisis, maintaining good relations with three important countries and creating a more stable situation on economic-diplomatic fronts are priorities." When asked what would be the impact on Dhaka-Delhi relations if India refuses to send back former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the foreign advisor said that there are many bilateral issues between the two countries and this is one of them.
Tauheed Hussain said, 'We have many issues of mutual interest. We will work together on them. On December 23, Dhaka sent a diplomatic message to Delhi demanding the extradition of Hasina. The interim government has not yet received any response from the Indian side on this issue.
Relations with India, China, America a priority
Tauhid Hussain said that maintaining strong relations with India, China and America is Bangladesh's priority. He said that we want good relations with our neighboring country as well as America and China. He also mentioned Bangladesh's mutual interests with these three countries. He expressed hope that by the end of the year, relations with these countries will be better and stronger.
The foreign adviser to Bangladesh's interim government says the country can expect better days as some degree of stability has returned to Bangladesh after the recent turmoil. He also said things will become easier in terms of economic and foreign relations.
Rohingya crisis described as challenging
Talking about the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, he said that the Rohingya issue would be very challenging considering the ground reality. He said that his aim is to enable the Rohingyas to return to Myanmar with safety and dignity.
In fact, in recent times, there has been an increase in the commotion on the Myanmar and Bangladesh border, Myanmar's rebel organization Arakan Army has gained control over the border area, which has increased Bangladesh's concern. In the last 2 months, about 60 thousand Rohingyas have taken refuge in the country, before this, more than 10 lakh Rohingyas are already living in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister to visit China bilaterally
Meanwhile, the foreign advisor has said that he will visit China on January 20 to discuss bilateral issues. However, he did not elaborate on the issues to be discussed during his visit to China. He said that Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jashim Uddin has called an inter-ministerial meeting to decide the agenda.
