Bangladesh's interim leader Mohammad Yunus on Wednesday once again raised the issue of stolen properties during the Hasina government. Yunus condemned the corruption in the Sheikh Hasina government and demanded the return of the stolen properties.

77-year-old Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India after the protests. Hasina has not been sent back despite extradition requests from the Bangladesh government. Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus said in a statement, "The theft of billions of dollars of public money has put Bangladesh into a deep financial deficit."

Mohammad Yunus said, "The money stolen from Bangladesh belongs to its people, we will continue to work with our international partners to bring it back." Yunus further said that he hopes the property will be returned. He said that the former regime has not only looted the people of Bangladesh but also hindered the country's progress towards economic stability.

Let us tell you that Bangladesh's Anti Corruption Department (ACC) is investigating Hasina and her family, which also includes her niece, British MP and anti-corruption minister Tulip Siddiq. The investigation being conducted by ACC against Hasina's family is related to the embezzlement of $ 5 billion related to a Russia-funded nuclear power plant, as well as the alleged occupation of a high-level location in a suburb of the capital Dhaka.

Siddiq resigned from his post on Tuesday, but denied that he had done anything wrong. An investigation by the British Sunday Times revealed claims that Siddiq had spent several years in a London flat he got from two Bangladeshi businessmen.

According to the paper, the flat was transferred as a gift to a Bangladeshi lawyer connected to Hasina. The report also said that Siddiq and his family were given or used several other London properties bought by members or allies of Hasina's Awami League party.

Yunus said, “Tulip Siddiq might not have been fully aware of the property she got in London, but now that it is known, she should apologize to the people of Bangladesh.
