Abu Mohammad al-Julani (Ahmad al-Shara), the chief of Hayat Tahri al-Sam (HTS), who took command of Syria after the coup of Bashar al-Assad, has given a statement about Israel. In an interview with The Times, Julani said that he will not allow Syria to become a launch pad for attacking Israel or any other country.

Julani also called on Israel to stop the ongoing attacks on Syria. He said, "Israel used to justify the presence of Hezbollah and Iranian militia behind the attacks and now this justification is over." He further said, "We are committed to the 1974 agreement and we are ready to return to the United Nations (monitors)."

We do not want conflict with Israel: Julani.

During the interview, he said, "We do not want any conflict with Israel or anyone else and we will not allow Syria to be used as a launch pad for attacks. The Syrian people need a pause, the attacks must stop and Israel must return to its previous position."

Demand to lift the ban

Julani has called on the international community and Western countries to lift sanctions on Syria imposed during Assad's tenure, arguing that these sanctions are hampering Syria's reconstruction and are no longer justified.

Promise of protection of minorities

Julani, in response to concerns about HTS's treatment of minorities, said he had met with community leaders and reassured them. Syria's minorities include many minorities, including Christians, Druze, and Assad's Alawite sect. In addition, Julani acknowledged the challenges and stressed the need to stabilize Syria before the elections.
