Will 20 thousand Indians be sent back from America? A big crisis looms.

Ever since he took oath, US President Donald Trump has been seen in action mode. He has started cracking down on immigration from the very first day of his second term. Trump has targeted the southern border with Mexico and criminal gangs, after which a cloud of crisis has started looming over thousands of Indians living in America.
The US grants H-1B visas to Indians for most jobs and it is estimated that there are 300,000 Indian students in the US, the largest group from any foreign country. More than 20,000 people could be in trouble here. If the Trump administration moves forward with deportations, the first to be affected could be 20,407 Indians who do not have any documents by November 2024. These are Indians who are either facing final removal orders or are currently in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers.
Of these Indians, 17,940 are not in custody for lack of papers but are under final removal orders and another 2,467 are in custody under ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Asians are the first to be detained in the US. The total number of non-citizens of all countries detained by November 2024 has exceeded 37,000.
The number of Indians deported from America increased 5 times.
In the US, a removal order is issued by an immigration judge which becomes a final removal order when confirmed by the appellate authority. ICE has included India along with Iraq, South Sudan, and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the list of 15 uncooperative countries that are reluctant to accept their undocumented citizens back from the US. According to ICE's 2024 annual report, the number of Indians deported has already increased fivefold in four years. In the year 2021, this number was 292, which has increased to 1,529 in 2024.
