Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun has attempted suicide. He was arrested for his role in the failed attempt to impose martial law in South Korea recently. Commissioner General Shin Yong Hee of the Korea Correctional Service said that Kim tried to kill himself in a Seoul prison, but his attempt failed. He also said that the former minister's condition is now stable.

Last week, President Yoon Suk Yeol imposed martial law in South Korea. Just hours after that, MPs voted in Parliament to remove it. Kim was the first person to be detained against this. He is accused of putting the East Asian country in a political crisis by doing so. Kim had allegedly advised the President to declare martial law and resigned from the post of Defense Minister soon after this.

Was troubled by criticism!

Some people are considering the suicide attempt of former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun as a reason for tension. Because the imposition of martial law in the whole country is being criticized and the leaders associated with it are facing the anger of the public. Kim was ordered to be arrested by a Seoul court issuing a warrant on the charges of playing an important role in the rebellion and misuse of power.

Martial law in South Korea?

Martial law is a type of temporary emergency. The President of South Korea imposed it and argued that it was necessary against anti-national forces. However, within a few hours of this announcement, people started protesting and 190 members of the National Assembly voted against it. Protests took place in different parts of the country. There were large-scale protests against this law in front of the Parliament and it had to be withdrawn.
