A resolution has been passed against Israel in the United Nations General Assembly. According to this resolution, Israel will have to end its presence in the Palestinian territory within 12 months. Voting was held on this resolution in the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, but India did not participate in it. It is believed that India has maintained its friendship with Israel by keeping its distance from this resolution.

In the 193-member UNGA, 124 members voted in favor of the resolution, while 14 countries, including the US and Israel, voted against the resolution. Apart from this, 43 countries, including India, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Ukraine, did not participate in the voting. Earlier in October last year too, India had distanced itself from the resolution against Israel.

On Wednesday, a resolution was brought against Israel in the United Nations, demanding that Israel end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory without any delay within 12 months. By not participating in the voting on this resolution, India has made it clear that Israel is its unwavering friend.

In fact, India has always supported the 'two nation' solution to the Israel-Palestine dispute. Amidst the war, India has also expressed concern over the deaths in Gaza, but every time before doing so, it has condemned the Hamas attack on Israel. Currently, Israel is a good friend of India, and the partnership between the two countries in the defense and technical sector has strengthened. In such a situation, India has maintained its friendship by keeping its distance from this proposal against Israel.

India has already distanced itself from the proposal.

At the beginning of the Gaza war in October last year, Jordan had presented a resolution to the UNGA. It demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza so that humanitarian aid could be delivered to the Gaza Strip. But India still thought it better to stay away from voting.

The passing of the resolution is a big victory for Palestine.

The resolution states that Israel has illegally occupied the areas of Palestine and it will have to vacate these areas within 12 months without any delay.
