Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Christian areas of Syria's capital Damascus on Tuesday morning and created a ruckus. They were carrying Syrian flags in their hands during the protest. They also carried the symbol of Christianity with them during the protest. All of them were protesting against the burning of a Christmas tree near the city of Hama in central Syria. AFP journalists saw the protest.

According to the protesters, we demand the rights of Christians. The protesters raised slogans while marching through the Syrian capital towards the headquarters of the Orthodox Patriarchate in Bab Sharqi. In this case, the Islamic organization has said that all those who carried out this incident were outsiders and foreign fighters. At present, they have been detained and are being questioned.

Injustice against Christians

A protester Georges told AFP that he was protesting against the injustice being done against Christians here. If we are not allowed to believe in Christianity like before, then we will not have any relationship with this country. Actually, a video of a burning Christmas tree was going viral on social media.

Protests began after the video went viral on social media. The video showed hooded fighters setting fire to a Christmas tree in the Christian-majority town of Sukaylabiyah near Hama. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the fighters were foreigners from the Islamist group Ansar al-Tawhid.

A lot of protest was seen at the biggest square of the capital Damascus. Christian people are raising slogans of freedom at Umayyad Square. On December 8, after President Bashar-al-Assad left the country, everyone celebrated happily at this square. People say that now Syria is free, but the women of Damascus still believe that this freedom is incomplete.
