There is a wave of enthusiasm in Kim Jong Un's country North Korea. North Korea's veteran leader Kim Ki Nam has passed away. He was 94 years old. North Korea's media gave this information. North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the country's current leader Kim Jong Un paid tribute to Kim's name in the capital Pyongyang early Wednesday and expressed condolences to his family members.

Kim Ki-nam, former secretary of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party, defended our ideas and devoted everything to the struggle to strengthen them and guarantee the continued victory of the socialist cause, KCNA said. The agency said he died on Tuesday after undergoing treatment for age-related diseases and multiple organ failure for the past year.

In 2009, Kim Ki-nam also led the South Korean delegation that attended the funeral of former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung. Kim Ki Nam was one of seven senior officials who accompanied Kim Jong Un in his hearse after the death of late leader Kim Jong Il in 2011.

Before taking on leadership roles in the ruling Workers' Party's propaganda departments in the 1980s, Kim was a professor at Kim Il Sung University and the chief editorial writer of the state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper.

Despite being one of the most common family names in North and South Korea, Kim's name had no blood connection with the ruling. In 1966 he was appointed deputy director of Pyongyang's Propaganda and Agitation Department, where he worked closely with Kim Jong Il, the predecessor and father of current leader Kim Jong Un. Kim Ki Nam later led the department.
