The first military plane carrying more than two hundred illegal immigrants from America is about to reach India. This is the first time that illegal Indian immigrants have been sent back after Donald Trump became the President. Interestingly, for the first time in American history, military planes are being used to send illegal immigrants over such a long distance.

Regarding sending the Indians who reached America illegally in C-17 military transport aircraft, the spokesperson of the US Embassy in India, Chris Elms, has said that America is currently strictly following the immigration laws and is sending back the people who have come to America illegally. Through this action, there is a direct message to the people who go to America illegally that there is no benefit in reaching there by taking so much risk.

The Indian government has already said that if the people who have gone there illegally are Indian citizens, then the government is ready to take them back. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has also warned about the involvement of criminal gangs in sending people to America illegally and the danger to people's lives due to this. After the phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump on January 27, Trump said that PM Modi will do what is right in this matter.

How to reach America illegally

The process of reaching America illegally from India is very complicated and risky. Most illegal immigrants try to reach America through donkey route or illegal travel channel with the help of criminal gangs.

The Indian and American governments also have strong evidence of the involvement of many Khalistani organizations and their leaders in this process. Generally, attempts are made to illegally enter the US through South and Central America.

Common route to enter America illegally

There are some very common routes for Indians going to America illegally. People use them indiscriminately. The first route is via India to Dubai or Istanbul (on transit visa), and the second route is to reach a country like Ecuador or Brazil which gives visa free entry to Indians.

The third route is through Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and then through Mexico. The fourth route is to cross the Mexico-US border and enter the US illegally.

There are many risks of going illegal

Risk of death: Have to cross forest paths and dangerous rivers.

Human Trafficking: Sometimes people are taken hostage by criminal gangs and forced to pay ransom.

Jail and deportation: After entering illegally, there is always a fear of being caught by law enforcement agencies. If caught while entering the border, one has to stay in a detention center for months.

How are illegal immigrants identified?

The US Immigration and Border Security Agency (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) catch such people during their operations. Most of the people are caught for having fake visas, overstaying visas, crossing the border illegally, and violating immigration laws.

In many cases, people tear their passports and throw them away as soon as they reach America. American agencies catch them and send them to detention camps. According to American media reports, they are kept in worse conditions in detention camps.

Deportation rules from the US

Migrants caught at the border are deported under the accelerated deportation process. Migrants who are living illegally in the US are first detained, then sent back after verification. The deportation process is accelerated for migrants found to be involved in any crime.

Those who return voluntarily can go to America after a few years with a visa under the legal process. But those who are deported can be banned from entering America for 5 to 20 years. If someone enters America again illegally, they are sentenced to jail.

Legal status of Indians in America

More than 45 lakh Indians live in America, out of which 12 lakh people have got green card or citizenship. The number of Indians working on H1B visa is also around 3 lakh. More than 5 lakh Indian students are also studying in America. The estimated number of Indians living illegally under various categories is said to be 3-4 lakh people.

The total number of Indians trying to cross the border illegally or being held in detention centers is said to be around 18000. One of the major reasons is trying to reach America in search of better opportunities. Apart from this, strictness on H1B visa and green card backlog are also reasons for this.

Role of Indian Government

The Indian government has made it clear that if any person is identified as an Indian citizen, then the Indian government is committed to take him back. The Indian Embassy regularly helps the people present there.

The cases of Indians living there legally are constantly raised before the US administration. In the case of illegal immigrants, after detention by US agencies, the Indian government cooperates in verification and then issues their travel documents.

Most illegal migrants from Punjab-Gujarat

Most of the people who go to America illegally come from Punjab and Gujarat states of India. People from here try to go to America through the donkey route which is very risky. The number of people going on H1B visa is the highest from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Among the Indians settled in America, there is also a significant population of people coming from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

H1B issue is different from illegal immigrants

H1B visa allows professional and skilled workers to work legally in America. In this matter, the attitude of Trump team members Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as well as the top management of big American companies is very soft towards the people of India.

The long wait for the green card for H1B visa holders often forces Indians to stay in the US illegally. It is clear that the cases of H1B visa holders and those who come to the US illegally are different because H1B visa holders come to the US through the legal process.
