Amid great tensions in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia and the US are engaged in increasing their military cooperation. Saudi Arabia is the biggest partner of the US in the Middle East, both in terms of military and economic. To further strengthen this relationship, a delegation of the US Army reached the Saudi capital Riyadh on Sunday. The delegation was welcomed by Lieutenant General Fahd bin Hamad Al Salman, Commander of the Joint Forces of Saudi Arabia.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, General Fahd met the delegation led by Vice Admiral Charles Bradford Cooper II, Deputy Chief of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) at the Saudi Giant Force Office. CENTCOM (United States Central Command) is one of the 11 commands created in 1983 to deploy task forces outside the US. The areas under this command include the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of South Asia.

Top Saudi officials welcomed him.

This visit of the US military delegation is considered very special. This can be gauged from the fact that many senior officials of the Saudi army and government attended their welcome ceremony. Apart from General Fahd, many Saudi officials were present under the leadership of Major General Abdullah Al-Ghamdi.

Why is this tour considered important?

This visit of the US Army came at a time when Yemen's Houthis launched a major missile attack on Israel. The US administration has already been urging Saudi Arabia to take action against Yemen's Houthis, but Saudi has not broken the peace agreement with the Houthis.

According to some reports, Saudi has provided intelligence to US security agencies against Houthi operations. The US is trying to stop the Houthi rebels along with Britain and some other allies, so if it gets support from Saudi Arabia, it can help a lot in stopping Houthi attacks.

Will the strength of the Saudi army increase?

Given the threat of Iran, which is continuously increasing its dominance in the Middle East, Saudi is also engaged in strengthening its military power. US military bases are already present in Saudi and Saudi has signed many agreements with America for its security. America had recently stated that if Iran becomes a nuclear power, then we will give nuclear technology to Saudi to protect the region from its threat. In such a situation, it is believed that many agreements can be made between the Saudi army and the US army during this visit.
