An EA-18G Growler military fighter plane crashed in San Diego Harbor, but both pilots ejected safely. The video of the accident is going viral.

A military fighter plane crashed into San Diego Harbor on Wednesday, but luckily both pilots ejected safely. The accident involved an EA-18G Growler electronic jet, which fell into the water at around 10:15 a.m. The incident was confirmed by "The War Zone."

The plane crashed into the sea near Shelter Island, which is located right in front of Naval Air Station North Island. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, several ships were seen carrying out rescue operations. The area is dedicated exclusively to naval aircraft operations. Both pilots were taken to a local hospital, but the status of their injuries is currently unknown. According to the "New York Post" report, rescue teams were actively present at the scene of the incident.

A port official at the scene was recorded saying over the radio: "We saw the plane take off and then it crashed into the water." Another rescuer reported: "We are at the scene and recovering two parachutes." According to reports, there was a large fuel spill into the sea after the crash, which rescuers quickly took steps to bring under control.

The plane is currently submerged in the water and several rescue boats are monitoring the area. Live footage showed that a charter fishing boat, which saw the pilots eject, rescued both crew members. According to "NBC San Diego" report, the pilots were alert during the rescue. Local security cameras apparently recorded the incident, showing the plane falling almost straight down, after which it disappeared behind a structure.

A major military air exercise was underway in Southern California at the time of the incident, although it has not been confirmed whether it had any connection to the crash.

The Navy has been operating these two-pilot EA-18G Growler aircraft for the past 15 years. According to the official description from the Navy, "EA-18G Growler aircraft are equipped with advanced electronic attack technology and serve as the Navy's first line of defense in hostile environments."

This accident is another in a string of other recent military accidents. Earlier in January, a US military helicopter and an American Airlines plane collided near Reagan National Airport in Washington DC, killing 67 people.
