On Wednesday, a US Navy fighter jet tragically crashed into the waters of San Diego Harbor. Fortunately, both pilots managed to eject safely before the impact. The incident involved an EA-18G Growler electronic jet, which went down around 10:15 AM. This has been confirmed by "The War Zone."

The aircraft plummeted into the sea near Shelter Island, directly in front of the Naval Air Station North Island. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, several rescue boats were dispatched to the scene. This region is primarily dedicated to naval aviation operations. Both pilots were transported to a nearby hospital, but the severity of their injuries remains unknown. As reported by "The New York Post," rescue teams actively worked at the crash site.

A harbor official was overheard on a radio transmission saying, "We saw the jet take off, and then it just went into the water." Another rescuer reported, "We are on the scene and recovering two parachutes." Following the crash, a significant fuel spill was observed in the ocean, prompting immediate containment efforts by the rescue teams.

The live footage captured the dramatic sequence where a charter fishing boat, witnessing the ejection, moved swiftly to save the two pilots. "NBC San Diego" reported that both pilots were alert during the rescue. Surveillance cameras in the area possibly recorded the incident, showing the aircraft plunging almost vertically before vanishing behind a structure.

At the time of the crash, a large military air exercise was underway in Southern California. However, authorities have not confirmed if the exercise is connected to the incident.

The Navy has been operating the two-pilot EA-18G Growler jets for over 15 years. According to official Navy reports, "The EA-18G Growler is equipped with advanced electronic warfare capabilities, serving as the Navy’s first line of defense in hostile environments."

This crash adds to a string of recent military accidents. Just last month, a US Army helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight near Washington D.C.’s Reagan National Airport, resulting in 67 casualties.
