United Nations providing help to Afghans, provided food items to 1.73 lakh people

The United Nations agency has provided food items to 173,000 people in Baghlan Badakshan and Kunduz provinces. Hospitals have also been opened in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces, but they are not being operated properly due to a shortage of medicines.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCAH), a UN agency based in Afghanistan, has said that humanitarian aid has been provided to thousands of people within a week. He said that food items were provided to 1,73,000 people in Baghlan, Badakshan, and Kunduz provinces. Hospitals have also been opened in Baghlan and Kunduz provinces, but they are not being operated properly due to the shortage of medicines, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 54,796 people in the north have been given food under the World Food Program (WFP) for a month in Jawajjan and Sari Pul provinces. On 30 September, 3,150 people displaced by conflict from Jawjjan, Samgan, and Balkh provinces in July and August have been provided with food in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh. Meanwhile, a total of 232 people affected by the conflict in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Nimroj, and Jabul provinces have been reached to receive food, relief materials, water, and sanitation supplies.

In the past, 3,548 people received emergency outpatient health services and 45 children have been vaccinated against polio and measles. In the country's capital Kabul in the central part of the country, about 2,030 people have been given cash assistance to go back to their native places. After the Taliban takeover in August, the security situation across the country has been dilapidated.

UN Security Council condemns attack on Shias in Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned the attack on a Shia mosque in Kunduz province of Afghanistan, underscoring the need for the arrest of its perpetrators and terror funders. The UNSC said on Saturday, 'The members of the Security Council strongly condemn the cowardly attack on October 8, 2021, in Kunduz province of Afghanistan. It is noteworthy that more than 150 people were killed in the attack on a Shia mosque in Kunduz province.
