Ukraine captured Kim Jong's soldier fighting for Russia, South Korea claims
South Korea's intelligence agency confirmed that the Ukrainian army has captured an injured North Korean soldier fighting for Russia. This is the first report of the capture of a North Korean fighter since North Korea sent its troops to help Russia in the Russia-Ukraine war.
The South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) said, "Based on information from a sister intelligence agency, we can confirm the capture of an injured North Korean soldier," The Guardian reported.
Before this claim, Ukrainian media outlet Militarny also reported that a North Korean soldier was captured during an operation in Russia's Kursk region. It is not yet clear when this incident took place and neither Ukrainian nor North Korean officials have commented on the matter.
The first case of foreign soldiers being caught
According to South Korea's news agency Yonhap, a photo of an allegedly injured and thin-looking soldier is going viral on Telegram. There is no information about the soldier's treatment or condition at the moment. If these reports are officially confirmed, this will be the first such case.
Reports suggest that Ukraine has deployed more than 10,000 troops to support Russia following a defense agreement between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, neither Moscow nor Pyongyang has publicly acknowledged the presence of North Korean troops in the conflict.
International involvement in the Russia Ukraine war
This news shows the increasing international involvement in the war. On one hand, Ukraine continues to resist Russian aggression with the support of the US and NATO countries, on the other hand, Russia is also using external weapons and troops against Ukraine.
