Pakistan warned the international community at the United Nations Security Council meeting that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) could become an international terrorist organization like al-Qaeda. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pak representative Usman Jadoon said, "TTP is the biggest threat to the country, the region, and the world inside and outside Afghanistan."

Jadoon further said, “The Afghan Interim Government (AIG) is fighting ISIL-K (Daesh), but the threat from various other terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, TTP, and others has not yet been addressed.”

The biggest terrorist organization in the region

Describing TTP as the largest terrorist organization, he said, "With safe havens near our border, TTP poses a direct and daily threat to Pakistan's security." The attacks by TTP have strained Pakistan's relations with the Taliban government. Pakistan has accused TTP militants of taking refuge in Afghanistan and launching operations against Pakistan from Afghan soil.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban to take action against the TTP. However, the Taliban has said that Afghan soil is not used against Pakistan.

Now Pakistan is raising the issue of TTP in the United Nations and appealing to the international community for intervention. At the same time, Pakistan has repeatedly rejected India's allegations that Pakistan's land is being used for terrorism against India.

Blame put on India?

The Pakistani envoy said, “While countering the cross-border operations of the TTP, our security and border officials have seized some of the sophisticated weapons acquired by the Taliban from the stocks left behind by foreign forces in Afghanistan.”

Referring to India, he said the terrorist group also receives external support and financial help from "our adversary". He further said that the TTP is fast emerging as an umbrella organisation for other terrorist groups whose aim is to destabilize Afghanistan's neighbors.
