Trouble in another country… rebel M23 clashed with the army, Indians also faced trouble.

Another African country is engulfed in violence and the control of the country seems to be passing from the hands of the government to the rebels. In Congo, the rebels M23 are advancing day by day and capturing cities and towns in the country. Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have taken control of the eastern Congo city of Goma and they can further expand the area under their control.
The Indian Embassy in Congo's capital Kinshasa has asked all Indian citizens in Bukavu to immediately move to safer places, as the city of Bukavu could be the next target of the rebels. The embassy has said that it is closely monitoring the security situation in the Central African country. The embassy's advice says that everyone should be prepared for an emergency. About 25 thousand Indians live in Congo and one thousand Indians are expected to be in the violence-affected area.
Why does the war in Congo continue?
There are many reasons for the unrest in Congo. Many ethnic groups have been fighting among themselves for decades. Foreign powers are taking advantage of this because Congo is a resource-rich country. Therefore, foreign powers are also inciting violence to further their own interests. Rwanda and Uganda are said to have played a special role in the recent tension.
The M23 rebel group formed from Congo's CNDP is currently fighting directly with the Congolese army. Most of the members of M23 are from the Tutsi community and this group talks about the security and rights of its community, which is a poor community in the eastern region of Congo. Let us tell you, there is a historical tension between Tutsi and Hutu in this region, which sometimes turns into violence.
What did the Indian Embassy say?
The Indian Embassy advisory said, "There are reports that M23 is just 20-25 km away from Bukavu. In view of security, we once again advise all Indian nationals residing in Bukavu to immediately move to safer places by any means available as the airport, borders and commercial routes are still open."
The embassy has asked Indian citizens to keep an emergency plan ready and has instructed them to keep necessary identity and travel documents with them. Apart from this, they have also advised to keep essential items like medicines, clothes, travel documents, ready-to-eat food, water etc. The embassy said that it is collecting information about Indian citizens in Bukavu and Indians have been asked to send information to the embassy, which includes full name, passport number, addresses in Congo and India and other details.
