Those 3 countries because of which Bashar al-Assad had to see these days

The process of forming a new government in Syria has begun, and Mohammad al-Bashir has been made the interim prime minister. He will lead the interim government until March 1. This decision has been taken 3 days after rebel groups captured Damascus. The Assad family, which had been ruling Syria for nearly 5 decades, has ended after 13 years of conflict.

Bashar al-Assad was a doctor by profession, he studied ophthalmology at Western Eye Hospital, in London. After the death of his elder brother in a car accident in 1994, he was forced to enter politics. After the death of his father in 2000, he became the President of Syria, during that time the people of Syria had a lot of expectations from Bashar.

Why did Bashar al-Assad have to see these days?

A British-educated youth who was a fan of Western civilization was expected to bring about change and freedom, but this did not happen. Instead, Assad's rule proved to be even harsher than his father's rule. As a result, after 13 years of struggle, Bashar al-Assad had to leave power and flee to Russia. Let us know why this happened and which countries are behind this.

Actually, Assad, from whom the people of Syria had a lot of expectations, suddenly became a dictator for them. In just a decade of ruling Syria, Bashar al-Assad transformed from a doctor to a dictator. The role of 3 countries is important in this, because of which Assad had to see these days. First- Lebanon, second- Iran and third- Russia.

Harm from presence in Lebanon

Bashar al-Assad has been accused of adopting a repressive attitude against opponents in Syria since 2001. But tensions with Western countries began during the Iraq War. Assad opposed the US invasion of Iraq, fearing that Syria could be America's next target.

After this, in 2005, an explosion took place in Beirut, Lebanon. Former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was targeted in this attack. Hariri was anti-Syria, which is why the Assad government of Syria and its allies in Lebanon were accused of his murder. The Assad government played an important role in strengthening Hezbollah in Lebanon and provided a safe route for the weapons coming from Iran. Under Assad's leadership, Syria has been an important component of the 'Axis of Resistance' created by Iran. In 2006, he openly supported the struggle of Palestinians and Hezbollah against Israel and this is the reason why the Assad government has always been a thorn in the eyes of America.

Closeness with Iran proved costly!

The second biggest factor in the downfall of Bashar al-Assad's government is Iran. Iran is a Shia majority country and the Assad family also believes in Shia Islam. This is the reason why relations with Iran deepened during Bashar al-Assad's rule. Iran used Syria as a 'safe-route' to strengthen the 'Axis of Resistance', there are allegations that Iran has been supplying weapons to Hezbollah through Iraq and Syria. Not only this, Iran has also trained Hezbollah fighters on Syrian soil.

Iran supported the Assad government during the civil war that started in Syria in 2011. Iran helped the Assad government to remain in power through arms, military aid and Shia militias present in Iraq. But when the rebellion suddenly started in November last month, Iran itself was weakened. Its proxy groups have suffered major losses in the war with Israel and it is not in a position to get involved in any war itself. This is the reason why Iran kept giving assurance of help but it did not take any major step to save the Assad government in time.

Russia could not help like in 2016

Russia is the biggest ally of the Assad government in Syria. Millions of people were killed in Russian attacks during the civil war. Bashar al-Assad sought help from Russia in 2015 and after this the Russian army wreaked havoc on the rebels as well as the Syrian people. In return for military assistance, Russia got a 49-year lease for naval bases in two strategic parts of Syria. This marked a strong Russian presence in the Middle East. This is the reason why Russia carried out rapid attacks on the city of Aleppo to save the Assad government. These attacks caused a lot of damage to Bashar al-Assad's image.

Russia itself has been embroiled in a war against Ukraine since 2022, it had already withdrawn important fighter jets and defense systems from its military bases in Syria, so that they could be used in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the sudden attack by the rebels did not give Russia the opportunity to provide any major help to the Assad government. On December 8, the Assad government was overthrown and he had to leave Damascus and flee to Moscow. Russia has given political asylum to Bashar al-Assad and his family, but along with the Assad regime in Syria, Russia's influence in the Middle East has also ended.
