Third major accident in 3 days in Brazil, a bridge connecting two states collapsed, two dead, dozens missing.
At least two people were killed and a dozen others missing after a bridge connecting two northern Brazilian states collapsed, police said on Monday. A leak of sulfuric acid has complicated rescue operations. Footage from local residents showed that a large section of the bridge collapsed into the river on Sunday as cars and trucks were crossing the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira bridge.
Police operating on the border between the northern states of Maranhao and Tocantins said eight vehicles were missing: four trucks, two cars and two motorcycles. Police and Brazil's roads department said they had launched an investigation.
10 people died in plane crash
A small plane crashed into the popular tourist city of Gramado in Brazil on Sunday, killing 10 passengers and crew members. Brazil's civil protection agency said in a post on X that the plane first hit a chimney of a house, then hit the second floor of a building and crashed into a mobile phone shop in a main residential area of Gramado. More than a dozen people on the ground were injured and were taken to hospital, two of whom were said to be in critical condition. It is not yet clear what caused the accident.
41 people died in road accident
On Saturday, a truck hit a bus full of passengers in south-eastern Brazil. This accident happened on a national highway in the Minas Gerais state of south-eastern Brazil. In this accident, 22 people died on the spot, while many were injured. After this, the death toll increased to 30, then 38 and then 41.
