The setback that Iran and Russia have suffered in the Middle East may soon befall Israel and the US. The fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in Syria is a major setback for Iran and Russia, as both have lost a major ally in the region.

The US and Israel, which have been accused of plotting to overthrow the Assad government in Syria, are reportedly also facing the threat of a coup against their key ally in the region. Israeli officials are concerned that a coup could also occur in Jordan, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, KAN, reported.

There is a possibility of a coup in Jordan!

The report said Israeli political and security officials are gravely concerned about a possible collapse of the Jordanian government at the hands of opposition groups in the Arab country. On Sunday, KAN reported that Israeli officials are gravely concerned that Jordanian rebel groups could be inspired by events in Syria and try to overthrow the regime of Jordan's King Abdullah II.

Citing senior Israeli sources, the report said that there had been discussions between top Israeli officials about Jordan. Further talks have also been planned. According to KAN, some Arab diplomats have also expressed concern about the outbreak of rebellion in Jordan, but Israel may suffer more from this whole matter because Israel's Palestinian-occupied areas share the longest border with Jordan.

Israeli intelligence officials visit Jordan.

Meanwhile, the Times of Israel newspaper reported that Ronen Bar, the head of the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet, and Shlomi Binder, the head of the Intelligence Directorate, visited Jordan on Friday, where they held talks with Jordanian generals on the situation in Syria. During this meeting, Israeli officials are also believed to have discussed reports of a rebellion brewing in Jordan.

On the other hand, the American news website Axios also published a similar report, which said that the head of Shin Bet and senior Israeli army officials had met the head of Jordan's intelligence agency and senior military commanders of the country to discuss the situation in Syria.

Why is there a threat of a coup in Jordan?

Jordan has a population of around 1.15 crores. It is a Sunni-majority country but the number of refugees in its population is quite high. According to reports, 20 to 50 percent of the population in Jordan is of Palestinian origin. That is, out of a population of around 1.15 crores, 35 lakh people are of Palestinian origin. On the other hand, more than 14 lakh Syrian refugees also live in this Islamic country. That is, almost half the population is of Palestinian and Syrian refugees.

After the Israeli attacks on Gaza that began on 8 October, large-scale protests were also held in Jordan. People demanded the cancellation of the agreement to normalize relations with Israel and also the end of trade deals with Israel. But on the contrary, Jordan's security forces used force to stop these protests and arrested hundreds of protesters and put them in jail. Since then, there is a lot of anger and resentment against King Abdullah II in Jordan.

Jordan is a special friend of Israel and America

Jordan's King Abdullah II may oppose Israeli aggression on the Palestinian issue, but he has often been found supporting Israel against Iran. Due to his closeness with the US, he is also a close ally of Israel. When Iran attacked Israel with hundreds of rockets and missiles in April and October, it was Jordan that shot down most of the missiles in its own airspace before they fell on Israeli soil.

The regime of Jordan is pro-Palestine but it is neither a part of Iran's resistance group nor does it allow its land to be used against Israel. This is the reason why this small Arab country in the Middle East is very important for both America and Israel.
