The WHO chief had arrived in Yemen to negotiate the release of UN employees who had been held hostage by Houthi fighters for the past several months. He also took stock of the health and humanitarian situation in the country.

He said that he and his colleagues were about to board the flight when the airport was attacked. During this, heavy bombing was done there. In which a member of his flight was injured and two people present at the airport died. The chief said that he and his colleagues are safe, but they will have to wait till the airport is repaired to leave Sanaa.


The UN Secretary General condemned the attack.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the attack in Sana'a. Along with this, he has also talked about respecting international law. He said that civilians and humanitarian workers should never be targeted.

He said that the air strikes on Sanaa International Airport, Red Sea ports, and power stations in Yemen are extremely dangerous, Guterres expressed regret over the recent tension between Yemen and Israel. According to the Chief Secretary, many people have been injured in this attack.

Houthi rebels in Yemen said Israeli airstrikes targeted the rebel-held capital Sanaa and the port city of Hodeida on Thursday. The Israeli military said it attacked infrastructure used by the Houthis, including the international airport in Sanaa and the ports of Hodeida, al-Salif, and Ras Kantib, as well as power stations.
