The Pakistani army is 77 years old, but in these matters, it is behind the 53-year-old Bangladeshi army.
The Bangladesh Army was born after the 1971 war. It is 53 years old now. During this period, it did not fight any war, but it has a distinct identity at the international level. In many matters, it is ahead of the 77-year-old Pakistan Army.
The Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Police have been actively involved in several UN Peace Support Operations (UNPSOs) since 1988. Bangladesh has been the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions until 2023. According to 2023 data, Bangladesh had 6,500 soldiers in the UN peacekeeping mission. Which is the highest number compared to any country.
After this comes Nepal. 5,800 soldiers of Nepal are involved in the UN mission. Whereas between 5,500 to 6,000 soldiers of India are involved in the mission. Talking about Pakistan, its contribution is of about 4200 soldiers.
Bangladesh is ahead in these matters too.
Not only this, Bangladesh is also on top in terms of paramilitary forces. Whereas, Pakistan is at number six. Talking about fleet strength, Bangladesh has 117 while Pakistan has 114. Bangladesh is ranked 30th, whereas Pakistan is ranked 32nd.
But Pakistan is ahead in these matters
However, in most cases, the Pakistan Army outweighs the Bangladesh Army. This includes everything from military personnel to budget. The Pakistan Army has around 6,54,000 active military personnel, making it one of the largest standing armies in the world. In contrast, the Bangladesh Army has around 2,04,000 active military personnel, which is much less than Pakistan.
For the year 2024-25, Pakistan has allocated a defense budget of 2,122 billion i.e. approximately 7.64 billion US dollars, which is 1.7% of its GDP. Bangladesh's defense budget is 423.6 billion i.e. approximately 3.6 billion US dollars, which shows an increase of 11% from last year.
The Pakistani army has participated in several significant conflicts besides the war against India. But in contrast, the Bangladesh army has focused on internal stability and regional peacekeeping.
