Austria's far-right Freedom Party (FPO) may win the general election on Sunday for the first time. Chief Herbert Kickl used the term 'Volkskanzler' (people's chancellor) during his election campaign, a term used by the Nazis in the 1930s for Adolf Hitler. However, Kickl has rejected this comparison. His opponents have called him a threat to democracy because of his right-wing ideology.

Who is ahead among all?

According to the surveys conducted before the elections in the country, Kickl's path does not seem to be so easy. According to a recent survey, his party FPO has received 27 percent support, while the ruling party Conservative People's Party (ÖVP) has been chosen by 25 percent of the people, and the center-right party Social Democrats has received 21 percent support. According to this, it seems that Kickl will need the support of some other party to form the FPO government.

Kickl has worked a lot on the party since the 2019 elections and his popularity has increased in the country. In June, the Freedom Party succeeded by winning a national vote in the European Parliament elections for the first time. The Freedom Party also faces opposition in the country, liberals consider this party dangerous. Social Democrats leader Andreas Babler has called Kickl a threat to democracy.
