The big countries of the world kept saying…the leader of this small country taught a lesson to US President Trump.

US President Donald Trump made many tough decisions as soon as he took office, of which the most controversial decisions were on immigration and increasing tariffs. Trump has launched a campaign to send back immigrants from Canada, Mexico, India, and many other countries. After Trump's statements, tensions with Canada and Mexico increased, but these two countries have not been able to muster the courage to take any action against America.

The small country of Colombia has responded to these steps of Trump. Trump sent illegal immigrants back to Colombia on an American plane, which Colombian President Gustavo Petro did not allow to land in the country and sent back to America. Trump became furious at this step of Petro and he announced to impose a 25 percent tariff on goods coming to America from Colombia.

Petro did not stop here, he said that Trump should have followed the respectable protocol for the return of our citizens and we are sending planes for their respectable return. Petro, following the tit-for-tat, also announced tariffs on goods coming from the US to Colombia. However, in a statement issued by the White House on Sunday night, it was said that Colombia has accepted all the terms of US President Donald Trump.

The White House has claimed that the Colombian government has accepted Trump's conditions and is ready for the return of Colombian migrants. Also, the tariff imposed on Colombia has also been put on hold for now.

On the social media platform X, Petro said, "I have instructed the Minister of Foreign Trade to increase the import duty from the US by 25 percent." The President said that the Colombian government will help companies find a replacement for the increased US tariffs, and also said that the country's companies should reduce their dependence on the US.

It was expected that the Colombian President would just issue a statement like Canada and Mexico on Trump's decision to send back the migrants, but instead of doing so, he has replied to Trump in his own language. Petro has always been an opponent of America and Western countries and his views have often clashed with these countries. He is a staunch opponent of Israel on the Palestine issue.

Who is Gustavo Petro?

Petro is the first leftist leader of Colombia to take power in Colombia in 2022. He has contested elections in 2010 and 2018, but he won in 2022. Gustova is not only known as the President but he is also a Colombian economist, politician, and former member of the M19 armed guerrilla movement. He has also fought guerrilla warfare during the M19 movement. Apart from this, he has also been active with the youth of Colombia in the anti-government protests that took place after COVID-19. Petro's conflict of views with Western leaders is now visible in the country's policy and is expected to increase.
