Terrorist attack in America on New Year: ISIS's knock creates commotion
The terrorist attack on the first day of the new year in New Orleans shook America. 42-year-old Shamsuddin Jabbar, a resident of Texas, crushed the crowd with a high-speed pickup truck. He was an ISIS supporter. 15 people were killed in this attack and more than 35 people were badly injured. After the incident, the police shot Jabbar dead. The FBI recovered an ISIS flag and explosives from his car.
Just after this attack, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. President Joe Biden said that a possible connection between the two incidents is being investigated. However, he also said that there is no concrete information in this matter yet. The explosive attack on Trump's ally Elon Musk's Tesla car in front of Trump Tower just before Donald Trump was sworn in as President has scared ordinary Americans about the future.
Houston mosque and suspected connections
Jabbar used to go to Houston's Masjid Bilal. This mosque has instructed its members not to talk to the FBI or the media. Instead, they have been asked to contact CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and the Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH). The mosque management said in its statement that this is the time to stay united and condemn such dirty acts. After this incident, Muslims living in America are also worried that the atmosphere after the 9/11 attack may start again and innocent people may have to become its victims. Trump supporters have also started giving political color to the New Orleans incident.
Direction of further FBI investigation
The FBI suspects that Jabbar was not the only one responsible for this attack. Four more of his associates are being searched for. This attack in New Orleans has raised the question whether ISIS has attacked America under a new strategy.
Questions on the relationship between ISIS and America
Another worrying aspect is that America has helped HTS, an ISIS-affiliated organization, to come to power in Syria. Now people influenced by the ideology of ISIS are carrying out terrorist attacks on American soil. If ISIS's penetration in America strengthens, America may have to face serious challenges in the coming times.
