Putin has not only been the President but also the PM, he changed the constitution of Russia to stay in power.
It has been 25 years since Russian President Vladimir Putin has been in power. He became the President of Russia on 31 December 1999 and since then governments have changed in many countries, but the word President has remained attached to Putin's name. He has been the most powerful leader of Russia for 25 years. Before Putin became the President, Boris Yeltsin was in this position.
Putin has made it a habit to remain in power. Whenever attempts were made to bow him down, he emerged stronger. Some experts say that Putin does not know how to hand over power. He wants to keep his family safe. Whenever Putin won the elections, there were allegations of rigging in them.
He became PM after his term was over.
Putin became the President after Yeltsin's resignation in 1999. In 2004, he sat on the President's chair for the second consecutive time. However, due to constitutional limitations, he could not hold this post for three consecutive times. This was the reason why he remained Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012.
According to the Russian constitution, no one can hold the post of president for more than two terms. Putin's second term ended in 2008. But he became prime minister in 2008 before becoming president again in 2012. When Putin was holding this post, Dmitry Medvedev was in the chair of the president.

During his term, Putin amended the Russian constitution. He signed an executive order on July 3, 2020, allowing him to remain in power for two terms of six years each. This amendment came into effect on July 4, 2020.
Putin's streak of staying in power continued in 2024 as well. He won the elections this time with 88.48 percent votes. However, opponents alleged rigging in the elections. On May 7, 2024, Putin became the President of Russia for the 5th time.
Will he remain President till 2036?
Putin can remain in the presidential race till 2036. A provision has been included in the Russian constitution that allows him to contest the presidential race two more times. After 2024, Putin's term will be 6-6 years. If Putin wins in 2030 as well, he can remain in the post of President till 2036. By doing this, Putin will become the longest ruling leader.
