A minority group in Bangladesh has demanded the immediate release of Hindu saint and Sanatan Jagran Manch spokesperson Chinmoy Krishna Das. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCOP) on Sunday demanded that the case filed against him is 'false' and done only 'for the purpose of harassment'.
Das, a former ISKCON member, was arrested at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25. He has been charged with sedition for allegedly insulting the national flag, following which a Chittagong court rejected his bail plea. The hearing of the case is now scheduled for January 2 next year.
'False' sedition cases
According to a report in the Prothom Alo news portal, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCOP) has issued a statement demanding Chinmay's immediate release. The statement issued by BHBCOP's acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath said that the sedition cases filed against Das and 19 others are false and have been done only to harass them.
According to reports, a demand has been made for the release of all those arrested in such cases. Along with this, minority organizations are also demanding protection for minorities.
Arrest of Hindu leaders in Bangladesh
The internal administration has taken action against the leaders and organizations who raised their voice against Hindu violence in Bangladesh. This also includes people from ISKCON Trust. India has strongly criticized Bangladesh's action against Hindu organizations and has also raised its voice at the international level regarding the safety of minorities in the neighboring country.
