Proposal to criminalize Israel, India kept distance

There has been a war going on between Israel and Hamas since October 7, 2023, due to which a resolution against Israel was brought to the United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday, April 5. This resolution of the Human Rights Council said that Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, for which it should be held responsible.

Let us tell you, that India maintained its distance from this proposal presented in the United Nations. India on Friday blocked a resolution in the Human Rights Council that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and also demanded that Israel immediately lift its illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.

28 countries voted in favour of this proposal, 6 against it and 13 kept their distance from it. Not only India but 13 countries including India, France, Japan, Netherlands and Romania among others banned this proposal. Those voting against the resolution included Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany and America. The countries that voted in favour of the resolution include Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

The resolution demanded that Israel, which had occupied Palestine including East Jerusalem in 1967, should end its occupation. It was emphasized that the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine should be ended. The resolution said that there should be an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and also called for immediate emergency humanitarian access and aid to reach Gaza. The resolution also demanded that Israel immediately lift its illegal blockade and siege on the Gaza Strip.
