ISIS Khorasan has increased the number of its terrorists only with the help of Pakistan. In the year 2021, the number of its members was 1500, which has increased to 4000 in the year 2024. Not only this, this terrorist organization is continuously expanding its scope. It has established its network in 34 provinces of Afghanistan. It has also carried out more than 450 attacks in Afghanistan since August 2021.

Taliban action on ISIS Khorasan

Here, the Taliban leader has ordered an investigation into the presence of ISIS in Kandahar. Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, in an audio message, has instructed his security commanders in Kandahar to seriously investigate the presence of ISIS-Khorasan in the area. Akhundzada also directed that if any Taliban official interferes with the duties of security commanders, they should be informed.

What is ISIS Khorasan?

IS Khorasan had claimed responsibility for the suicide attack outside Kabul airport on 26 August. In 2020, terrorists attacked a maternity ward in Kabul, killing 16 women, two children, and seven other people. This terrorist organization has often been targeting members of the Shia Hazara minority. IS-K was formed in 2014 and recruited Afghans and Pakistanis, especially radical Taliban fighters, on a large scale.

The name “Khorasan” of this terrorist organization is taken from a historical region, which includes today's Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, and parts of Central Asia. The US declared it a “foreign terrorist organization” in January 2016 and within three years of its formation, IS-K has become one of the four most dreaded terrorist organizations in the world on the Global Terrorism Index of the Institute for Economics and Peace.
