Apart from fruits like guava and mango, parrots are also known to be fond of seeds and vegetables or green chillies. Many people believe that the fruits chosen by the parrots are the sweetest and tastiest. In such a situation, this theory is being taken a little further in Nirukulla village of Sultanabad Mandal of Telangana, due to which the parrots here are now liking to drink toddy.
The villagers like to drink toddy. In such a situation, the toddy drinkers request the shopkeepers to give them the toddy that the parrots drink first. Due to such demand from the customers, toddy businessmen are now inviting birds to taste their toddy. The toddy tappers have tied vessels to the trees to collect the juice.
The toddy tappers in the village say that toddy, called 'Pothallu', is sweeter in this season. Due to its sweetness, the parrots have become addicted to it. In such a situation, due to serving toddy-drunk parrots, there is a sudden rush of customers at the shops, a growing craze. Especially, weekends are the time when toddy tappers do very good business.
The juice that comes out of the palm tree is toddy. It is a beverage and is also called the juice of trees. Toddy is also called palm wine. To make toddy, a cut is made in the tree and a pot is placed underneath it, in which the toddy collects. Toddy contains a small amount of intoxicant. Toddy helps in improving digestion, boosting immunity, and relieving constipation.
