Recently, two Indian accused got consular access in Pakistan, information about which was refused. Both these Indians were arrested in the year 2020. Both the alleged accused are residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan has refused to share information about consular access to two Indians arrested on charges of espionage. These two Indians were arrested in the year 2020, who have now been given consular access to India for meetings. The Foreign Office spokesperson refused to give this information during the weekly briefing.

29-year-old Firoz Ahmed Lone and 24-year-old Noor Muhammad Wani were arrested in Gilgit-Baltistan in 2020 on charges of espionage. Both the accused are residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Both of them recently met Indian diplomats, and when asked about their access, they denied it and said that such access was provided from time to time.

The meeting took place in Adiala Jail on 27 May

These two alleged accused were recently given consular access to India for a meeting, and they met on Monday, 27 May. According to diplomatic sources, a three-member delegation of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad met the two prisoners, during which officials of the Home Ministry were also present. This meeting was held in Adiala Jail.

Refused to give information in counselor access

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch refused to talk about this and give details in the weekly briefing. During the briefing, she was asked about the alleged consular access to two Indians arrested in Gilgit-Baltistan on charges of alleged espionage, to which she refused and said that I would not be a part of such a conversation. However, Pakistan from time to time arranges consular access for its citizens to the Indian High Commission. Consular access means that a diplomat or official of the country whose prisoner is in the country should be allowed to meet the prisoner in jail.
