Pakistan Air Lines: The neighboring country of Pakistan is going through a deep economic crisis these days. The country's weak economic condition is also affecting its major national airline Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Half of the PIA's fleet is out of service due to a shortage of essential spares and other equipment.

Pakistan struggling with shortage of spare parts

According to airline sources, the main reason behind the shortage of essential parts such as the engine, landing gear and auxiliary power units is the financial crunch and delay in clearances from the ministries concerned. This is the situation when PIA planned to resume its services in Europe.

Earlier, the Pakistan government had tried to sell a 60% stake to reduce the airline's debt. But the bid received was only 10 billion Pakistani rupees, which was much lower than expected. As a result, the privatisation commission rejected the bid and decided to start the process afresh.

Currently, the PIA's operational capacity is severely affected. The resumption of services to Europe, which included two weekly flights to Paris, is now in jeopardy. If the current situation persists, a big question may arise on the existence of Pakistan Airlines.
